The Road Race has been a popular event since it began in 1925. Fred Brown of Pense was the winner of the first race with no time recorded.
The second race saw H. Veiner of Dysart finish with a time of 1 hour and 28 minutes.
In 1927 Walter Fields came across the finish line first.
The following year John Wendell of Neudorf scored an easy victory. He repeated as winner each year until 1932, his best time came in 1928, 1 hour and 12 minutes.
In 1933 Reg Morgan won with a time of 1:15:15.
The following year Paul LaSwisse, a fleet-footed member of the Standing Buffalo First Nation won. He also won in the 1935 and 1936 races. No race was held in 1937. Paul continued his winning way with wins in 1939, '40 and '41 races. His best time, coming in the 1938 race, 1 hour and 11 minutes.
1942 saw Richard Gill break the finish line first. This was the final time the race was held until after the Second World War.
In 1946 John Harrison was the winner.
Paul McNabb a 30 - year old from the File Hills Reservation was the lone starter in the 1947 race.
Fred McNabb won the 1948 race.
The Echo Lake Road Race was not held until the Lions Club rejuvenated the race in 1977 with the original Leader-Cup Trophy presented annually to the winner
